Abstract

A cleansing composition comprises aqueous solution of the condensate obtained by reacting an aliphatic monohydric alcohol having 8 to 10 carbon atoms with, initially, propylene oxide to add a polyoxypropylene chain having 4 to 12 propylene oxide units per alcohol unit, and then with ethylene oxide to add a polyoxyethylene chain. References has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 739,266.ALSO:An aliphatic monohydric alcohol having 8 to 10 carbon atoms is reacted with propylene oxide to add a polyoxypropylene chain having 4 to 12 propylene oxide units per alcohol unit to the alcohol, and the product so obtained is reacted with ethylene oxide to add a polyoxyethylene chain. It is preferred that 6 to 16 ethylene oxide units per alcohol unit are incorporated and that the alcohols are primary alcohols derived from C7-C9 olefins. In the example, the alcohol and propylene oxide are mixed under reflux conditions at 170-175 DEG C., using a catalyst of sodium hydroxide. Ethylene oxide is then bubbled through the mixture at 160-165 DEG C. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 739,266.ALSO:An aliphatic monohydric alcohol having 8 to 10 carbon atoms is reacted with propylene oxide to add a polyoxypropylene chain having 4 to 12 propylene oxide units per alcohol unit to the alcohol, and the product so obtained is reacted with ethylene oxide to add a polyoxyethylene chain.
