Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1094925/C4-C5/1> where X and Y are monocyclic aryl radicals and n is 2-4. The compounds are prepared by interacting compounds of the formulae NH2.CHX.(CH2)n.Y and <FORM:1094925/C4-C5/2> where W is OH or NH2, the anthraquinone being present substantially in the leuco-form, and oxidizing and if desired sulphonating the product.ALSO:Amines of the formula H2N-CHX-(CH2)n-Y where X and Y are monocyclic aryl radicals and n is 2-4 are prepared by reacting optionally substituted acetophenone with an appropriate aldehyde and (a) hydrogenating under pressure in the presence of ammonia and a nickel or cobalt-kieselguhr catalyst, (b) converting to the oxime and reducing with sodium in amyl alcohol or (c) condensing with ammonium carbonate and formic acid followed by hydrolysis.
