Abstract

1,097,389. Endless conveyers; shrink wrapping apparatus. LERNER MACHINE CO. Ltd. Sept. 22, 1966 [Oct. 1, 1965], No. 41763/65. Headings B8A and B8C. The relative speeds of endless conveyers 3, 4, 6, 11 are predetermined to provide smooth transfer of stacked cartons 1 wrapped in film 2 as the cartons are conveyed from a wrapping machine to a shrinking tunnel (not shown). Belts 3, 4 move the stacks intermittently at the wrapping machine speed, and parallel belts 6 run continuously at half the speed of the belts 3, 4. The conveyer 11 operates in the shrinking tunnel and its chains 13 move at quarter the speed of the belts 3, 4. Rollers 15 are freely mounted on the chains but revolve when they engage tracks 17 so that the stacks 1 are propelled through the tunnel at twice the chain speed. The drive for the belts 6 is via a sprag clutch. When a stack is discharged from the belts 3, 4 it causes the belts 6 to override their drive and those of the rollers 15 which are under the stack will revolve to suit the speed of the stack. A spring-loaded plate 18 improves the pressing action of the belts 6 on to the stack whose speed now falls to the positively driven speed of the belts 6 which is the same as that of the conveying speed of the driven rollers 15. Rollers 12 between the conveyers 3, 11 are free running.
