Abstract

1,097,097. Balloons. G. INGRAM. March 18, 1966 [March 24, 1965], No. 12447/65. Heading B7W. A plurality of balloons, e.g. 180 in number, are attached to a common cable 9, to the lower end of which a load may be attached. The balloons are inflatable and deflatable by means controllable from a gondola, or from the ground, where the balloons are used, e.g. to lift logs. Each balloon or each group of balloons may be separately inflatable, or valves may be provided to isolate balloons in the event of their uncontrolled deflation. The inflation and deflation ducts may be attached to the outside of the cable, and the balloons attached by cords (15), Fig. 3 (not shown), to hose clamps (16) on the cable, or the ducts may be within the cable, and the balloons attached by cords (27) to a ring (25) able to swivel around the cable (Fig. 4, not shown). Each balloon may be within a separate envelope, e.g. of textile material, to prevent over-expansion, and may be spherical or streamlined and contain ballonets. The cable may be in sections of different diameters, to be connected end-to-end.
