Means for facilitating parking of a motor vehicle in a confined space comprise pivoted arms 3 for attachment to the vehicle chassis so as to be lowerable by hydraulic rams 15 or pneumatically or electrically operated means from an inoperative position in which rollers or wheels 4 engage the road and raise the rear road wheels 7, 11 of the vehicle, a friction pad 10 for preventing rotation of one road wheel 11 when the arms are lowered, and means for driving one wheel 4 from the other road wheel 7 to effect lateral movement of the rear of the vehicle. As shown, a roller 5 carried by a lateral arm 6 extending from one arm 3 engages the road wheel 7 to drive the wheel 4 through a chain or belt drive 8. A striker 12 on each arm 3 engages a ratchet or rack 13 attached to each rear spring 14 to raise the road wheels during downward movement of the arms 3. The hydraulic rams 15 are supplied by a screwactuated pump driven by the starter motor of the vehicle, means being provided for preventing the starter pinion engaging the starter ring when required. Retraction of the arms 3 is effected by springs stressed during extension of the arms. The vehicle may be provided with automatic catches for securing the arms in the stowed position, devices for preventing extension of the arms when the vehicle is moving, and controls inside or outside the vehicle for operating the arms other than from the driving compartment. A single arm near the centre of the vehicle may replace the two arms shown.
