Abstract
1,096,454. Turbine blade interconnecting. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 6, 1965 [July 6, 1964], No. 27781/64. Heading F1T. A steam turbine rotor has radially extending blades 15 laced together by two rings of wires 13, 14 to damp vibration. Each ring comprises six arcuate wire segments 25, 31 passing through holes 16 in blades 15, the ends of each wire overlapping the ends of the adjacent wires so as to be urged into frictional engagement centrifugally. Flat faces 25A are formed on the overlapping ends. The holes 20A to 24A in the blades in the regions of overlap are elongated radially to facilitate assembly of the wires and to ensure that the wires curve smoothly without points of inflexion. Washers 30 brazed to the wire on either side of selected blades 15 locate the wires circumferentially, they being free to slide in the holes in all the other blades. Alternatively, the wires may be brazed to selected blades without washers.
