Abstract
1,096,049. Light and heat-sensitive materials. ILFORD Ltd. April 21, 1966 [April 21, 1965], No. 16786/65. Heading G2C. A photograph is produced by exposing to light a material comprising a support on which there is coated a layer which comprises silver halide in a hardenable binder and either in the same layer or a separate layer comprising a hardenable binder adjacent thereto a heat-sensitive dye producing mixture, a silver halide developing agent of which the oxidation product formed on development is capable of hardening said hardenable binders being present in either layer, developing the silver image by treating the material with aqueous alkali, removing the unhardened areas e.g. with a solution of sodium salicylate, and heating the material. Specified hardenable binders are gelatine, polyvinyl alcohol and modified polyacrylamide (see Specification 967, 208). The heat-sensitive dye producing mixture comprises a water insoluble fusible solid m. pt 60-200‹C., a dye precursor and a coupling agent therefor. Specified fusible solids are acetanilide, benzoin, furoin and benzanilide. Triazene dye precursors and coupling agents e.g. resorcinol, phlorglucinol, 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid anilide naphthol, or /3-ketonic acid anilides are described in Specification 1, 031, 542. Other heat-sensitive mixtures are described in Specification 989, 382. Specified developing agents are hydroquinone, catechol and pyrogallol with or without 1-phenyl- 3-pyrazolidone.
