Abstract

1,094,644. Moulding fibrous compositions. VSESOIUSNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATEL'SKY INSTITUTE NOVYKH STROITELNYKH MATERIALOV. June 5, 1964 [May 31, 1963], No. 21846/63. Heading B5A. A mixture of fibrous material, e.g. wood waste or straw, and a settable binder are subjected to the action of a ram 7 for pressing and orienting the fibres of the material and feeding the material into the path of a ram B operating perpendicularly to the path of the ram 7 and which imparts a predetermined orientation to the fibres and presses the material into the elongated cavity 2 of a die 1, wherein the binder is made to set, thus building up the article being moulded in length and pushing it towards a discharge opening of the die. The mixture is fed into the path of the ram 7 from a hopper 3 via a metering device 4 and a vibrating shoot 5. The ram B may have a concave or other non-planar working face, and both rams 7 and B may be detachable for replacement when desired by others of differently shaped working faces. The passage 2 through the die 1 tapers from its inlet to its outlet.
