Abstract

1,094,339. Harvesting peas. RUSTON'S ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. and E. H. RUSTON. Oct. 17, 1966 [July 16, 1965], No. 30306/65. Heading A1F. A pea-harvester comprises a frame 6, 7, 8 mountable on tractor hitch-links 1, 2, 3, a header-assembly mounted on the frame for vertical movement thereon under the control of a hydraulic ram 44, a cutter unit 33 including ground-engaging shoes 29 being mounted for vertical movement relative to the header-assembly, the admission of fluid to the ram being controlled by a valve which is connected to the shoes and header so that the relative movement between the latter actuates the ram to cause vertical movement of the header on the frame. The header-assembly comprises an endless apron 24 receiving the cut plants and a reel (not shown) driven by a shaft 21. The shoes 29 are connected by a link 48 and chains 71 to the header, the link 48 being connected by bowden cable 51, 52 to the valve controlling the ram 48. The ram 48 is fixed to the U-shaped frame 6, 7, 8 the vertical legs 6, 7 of which form guides for slides 9, 10 secured to the header-assembly. A chain 36 passes over fixed sprockets 39, 40, 41 on the frame-member 8 and over a movable sprocket 42 carried by the rampiston 43 the chain being fixed at its ends to the header-assembly. The cutter unit includes a series of guard-members 35.
