Abstract
1,093,311. Beds. A. C. EGERTON ENGINEERING (BROMLEY) Ltd. Jan. 3, 1966 [Jan. 4, 1965], No. 302/65. Heading A4J. [Also in Division A5] Either longitudinal section 6 or 7, of an invalid's bed, can be swung about a hinge 14 or 15 nearer the opposite side of the bed, so that the central region of a mattress 26 is inclinable in opposite directions, thus enabling a supine patient thereon to be turned, without spinal disturbance, on to his side. The sections 6, 7 have sets of alternate projections 8, 9 to span the central region and only one set can support the mattress when it is inclined. The sections 6, 7 are swung by screw jacks 19 and 20 operated by electric motors 17 and 18. Hydraulic rams may alternatively be used and knobs 34, 35 enable the jacks to be operated manually. The support frame 4 is tiltable about a transverse axis (Fig. 2, not shown) by manual operation. The bed ends 33 are detachable to allow a traction unit (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown; see Division A5) to be installed. A sectional mattress to permit X-ray and other treatments may be provided.
