Abstract

[Also in Divisions E1 and F2] A polyethylene drain pipe is provided along the length thereof with four equally circumferentially spaced and axially directed rows of holes which are formed by sticking a pin, which has been heated, e.g. by electric heating or gas flame, to a temperature above the softening temperature of the polyethylene, through the wall of the pipe whereby molten polyethylene displaced by penetration of the pin forms a projecting collar on the exterior of the pipe around each hole. Each pin is suitably 2 mm. in diameter and the holes are 10 mm. apart in each row. The collars reinforce the holes so that distortion thereof in a round pipe length is avoided and clogging of the pipes by the inflow of clay and sand is minimized.
