Abstract
1,091,898. Refrigerant compressors. R. HINTZE. Jan.13, 1965 [Jan.15, 1964 (2); Jan. 18, 1964; Jan. 28, 1964; March 2, 1964; Sept.12, 1964], No.1467/65. Heading F1N. In a refrigerant compressor comprising a horizontally disposed hermetically sealed housing 1 in which is mounted an electric motor 3 driving via a crank-shaft 8 and connecting rod 17 the compressor piston 2, the axis of the crank-shaft and the axis of the housing are arranged to intersect at the centre of gravity of the motor 3. The connecting rod 17 is provided with an oilspoon 18 which periodically dips into an oil sump 15 to deliver oil into an oil groove 22 cut in the crank-pin. Oil flows from the groove 22 through an oil hole 23 in the connecting rod 17 to the gudgeon pin 24. Crank-shaft bearings 20, 25 are lubricated by oil splashed on to the conical ports 26, 27 of the crank-shaft 8 which deliver the oil by centrifugal force to the bearings. The bearing 20 is mounted in a cover 19 forming the closure of four muffler chambers 11-14, Fig. 2 (not shown). The housing 1 may be corrugated in order to increase the rate of heat dissipation and is provided with springs on which the compressor and motor are mounted.
