Abstract

1,091,435. Compressors. LENNOX INDUSTRIES Inc. July 27, 1965 [July 27, 1964], No. 32130/65. Heading F1N. In a hermetically sealed reciprocating motor compressor discharging gas into an annular muffling chamber 32, defined between flanges 26, 28 on the cylinder block 24 and a surrounding sleeve 30, a thermostat 44 is disposed in the muffling chamber 32 to prevent the discharge gas temperature exceeding a predetermined value by cutting off the current supply to the electric motor driving the compressor. The compressor has radially arranged cylinders and a flange for resiliently mounting the compressor on springs within its sealed outer casing 12. A heat shield 34 surrounds the sleeve 30 to reduce heat exchange between suction gas admitted to the casing 12 and the compressed gas in the chamber 32. In the event of the motor becoming overloaded or of overheating, an overload switch and an in-winding thermostat are operable to stop the motor.
