Abstract

1,091,386. Packages. STANLEY WORKS (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd. Oct. 4, 1966. [Oct. 23, 1965], No. 44224/66. Heading B8C. An article 6 is packaged between a thermoplastic film 4 and a layer 2 of air-pervious material rendered less pervious to air over an area A by means of an agent penetrating one or both surfaces of the layer 2, so that, when suction is applied through the layer to draw the film about the article, a portion of the film 4 remains free from contact with the sides of the article which remains undeformed by the packaging operation. The layer 2 may be of paperboard, and the agent an aqueous solution of waterglass or sodium silicate, or phenolic or alkyd varnish, brushed, sprayed, printed or silkscreened on to the layer 2. The film 4 may have an adhesive coating, or be treated to enable it to be bonded to the layer 2 under heat.
