Abstract
A method for inducing resistance to respiratory virus infection in animals comprises contacting the respiratory tract of an animal with a non - viral nucleic acid or a salt thereof. The nucleic acid, or salt thereof, may be administered intranasally or inhaled in the form of a dispersion in a suitable carrier. The carrier may be an aqueous, buffered, saline solution or a powder or dust. Other medicinal agents, e.g. analgesics, antibiotics, anaesthetics, decongestants and vaccines, especially virus vaccines, may be administered together with the nucleic acid, or salt thereof. Specified nucleic acids, and salts thereof, comprise nucleic acids derived from yeast, thymus, bacteria, plants, and sperm, and salts thereof.
