1,091,194. Opening metal cans. CARNATION CO. Jan. 19, 1965 [Jan. 23, 1964], No. 2300/65. Heading B8D. A shaped rim 15, Fig. 3, on the flange 5 of a metal end cap pressed over and soldered to the end of a metal can, provides a purchase for a can piercer. The rim may be combined with an indented groove (27), Fig. 6 (not shown), in the side wall of the can. The shaped rim with or without the indented groove may extend part way or be intermittently spaced round the flange 5.
