1,091,120. Boring earth &c. KONINKLIJKE MAATSCHAPPIJ TOT HET UITVOEREN VAN OPENBARE WERKEN "ADRIAAN VOLKER N.V." Dec. 21, 1965 [Oct. 6, 1965], No. 54131/65. Heading E1F. Apparatus suitable for sub-aqueous work and for taking a core comprises an electrical vibrator 6 carrying a core tube 12 having a connection 16 for the supply or removal of air from the tube interior. The tube carries a non-return valve 18 and comprises a transparent inner tube 14 for holding the core and to which the connection leads, and an outer tube 13 having a connection 17 for the supply of air to the annulus between the tubes during withdrawal of the tube 12 from the water bed. The vibrator is held in its uppermost position by an electrical latch 28 and has a lug 8 for lowering the apparatus. A device 20 prevents operation of the vibrator if the apparatus is not substantially vertical, and also serves to limit penetration of the tube 12. Compressed air is supplied to the interior of the tube 14 as the tube 16 touches the water bed, and as the tube 16 enters the bed the pressure is reduced below that of the surrounding pressure.
