Abstract
1,090,841. Moulding hollow concrete beams &c. W. DICKINSON and W. J. M. HAINES. Feb. 4, 1966 [Nov. 5, 1964], No. 45130/64. Heading B5A. [Also in Division E1] Hollow concrete building elements are formed by a method comprising withdrawing a core from a mould once the concrete has partially set, the top of the elements being supported by a non-structural layer of wire-reinforced cardboard which seats on the cores and becomes part of the elements. The method comprises traversing over a bed of concrete between side shuttering (30) an electrically driven trolley 23 which supports four parallel, rigid cores 26 each of which is disposed below a reel 26 carrying the cardboard. As the trolley traverses in the direction of the arrow at 1“ feet/minute the cardboard unwinds on to the cores and wet cement discharges thereonto from the shoot 28. By the time (after 9 minutes) the cores have withdrawn from the element the cement has partially set the cardboard supporting the top (15) of the element. The bed (25) of the mould is heated by steam pipes (29), and the bottom layer of concrete may be laid either by initially traversing the trolley without the cores, or by having a shoot projecting in front of the trolley.
