A mop wringer which is attachable to a pail or the like comprises a perforated basket 3 supported by slotted end plates 1, 2 and a handle operated presser bar arrangement movable between an open position which allows a mop head M to be inserted in the basket 3 and a closed position in which presser bars 12, 13 of the arrangement squeeze the mop head against a perforated abutment surface in the bottom of the basket, the presser bar arrangement being such that when it is in its closed position and when no mop head is in the basket, presser surfaces 14 of the presser bar arrangement be flush with the the perforated abutment surface. The perforated basket 3 supports or is formed with the perforated abutment surface which is flat and provided with stiffening webs (11) (Fig. 3, not shown) and the end plates 1, 2 which support the basket are formed with hooks 5 for attachment to a pail. The presser bars 12, 13 are fitted with lugs 15 which are guided by slots (6) (Fig. 2, not shown) in the end plates 1, 2 to tilt the presser bars from a vertical attitude to a horizontal attitude when the bars are moved vertically from the open to the closed position. The vertical movement of the presser bars is effected by a rack and pinion arrangement. A spring fixed to the end plates 1, 2 and to the handle biases the presser bars 12, 13 to the open position.
