An electro-chemical probe for measuring the oxygen content of molten metal comprises a tungsten or molybdenum electrode and a comparison electrode form by a graphite rod surrounded by an oxygen-enclosing mass of iron or graphite powder in a sheath of alumina which acts as an iron permeable barrier. The probe is connected to a voltmeter.
