Abstract
A stoving lacquer comprises at least one organic solvent and a mixture consisting of (i) at least 30 wt. per cent of an alkyd resin from (a) a C8- 20 aliphatic monocarboxylic acid; (b) a mixture of C4- 14 polycarboxylic acids, 2 to 30% being 3,6 - endoethenylenecyclohexane - 1,2,4,5-tetra-carboxylic acid; and (c) a C2- 10 polyol, and (ii) up to 70% of an "aminoplast resin." The term "aminoplast resin" is defined as including copolymers of N-alkoxymethyl amides of ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids as well as the conventional etherified urea or melamine-formaldehyde condensates but no specific example of the use of such copolymers is given. The lacquers may include curing catalysts, flow promoters and other binders, e.g. epoxy resins. In the example the solvent is xylene and TiO2 pigment is included.ALSO:A stoving lacquer comprises at least one organic solvent and a mixture consisting of (i) at least 30 wt. % of an alkyd resin from (a) a C8-20 aliphatic monocarboxylic acid; (b) a mixture of C4-14 polycarboxylic acids, 2 to 30% being 3,6-endoethenylenecyclohexane-1,2,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid; and (c) a C2-10 polyol, and (ii) up to 70% of an "aminoplast resin". The term "aminoplast resin" is defined as including copolymers of N-alkoxymethyl amides of ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids as well as the conventional etherified urea- or melamine-formaldehyde condensates but no specific Examples of the use of such copolymers is given. The lacquers may include curing catalysts, flow promoters and other binders, e.g. epoxy rosins. They may be used to lacquer metals, e.g. sheet metals, and may be stoved at 80 to 180 DEG C. In the Example the solvent is xylene and TiO2 pigment is included; the lacquer is sprayed onto degreased and derusted iron sheets.
