Abstract

Window frames; casements, reversible windows.-Window frames and sashes are formed from metal bars, Figs. 2 and 3, which comprise a main web 6, a central rectangular rib 5, two rectangular and parallel flanges 8, 9, and one or two offset extensions 10, 11. The ribs 5 may be used as glazing strips, or these ribs and the parallel extensions 10, 11 of the bar shown in Fig. 3 may be used as tenons to secure the frame to a wall as shown in Figs. C and 7; the offset extensions 10 form wide bearings or meeting faces for casement and like windows. Transoms and mullions may be formed by securing together two of the bars by means of screws as shown in Fig. 4, or may consist of ordinary cruciform glazing-bars; such ordinary bars 1, Fig. 8, may be combined with angle-iron to form a fixed frame for windows opening inwards or outwards or for windows mounted on horizontal or vertical pivots.
