WINDOW FRAME.
(Application filed July 8, 1902 (No Model.)
v w r' 6* Y q/ 7 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL ZATZKE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. V
WINDOW-FRAM E.
$PECIFIOATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 712,629, dated November 4, 1902.
T0 aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Beit known tl1atI,DANIEL ZATZKE,a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Frames; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. 7
My invention relates to improvements in window-frames; and it consistsin novel parts and combination of parts described hereinafter and set forth in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, showing the frame only. Fig. 3 is a like view showing the panes in position. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1, showing the frame only. Fig. 5 is a like view showing the panes in position.
Referring more particularly tothe-drawings, the frame comprises a bottom rail 6, stiles 7, a top rail 8, a horizontal bar 9, and a vertical bar 10. The bars are constructed of one piece, the horizontal bar passing through the bar 10 and into the stiles.
zontal bar 9 are rabbeted, as at 7 and 10 respectively, to receive the upper panes of glass. Similar rabbets 7 and 10 are formed in the lower part of the stiles and vertical bar to receive the lower panes. The depth of the rabbets-is slightly greater at the bot- By this con-- struction the frame is greatly strengthened.

tom than at the top, so that where they meet in the middle a shoulder 11 is formed, on which the lower edge of the upper panes rests and whereby they are supported. The shoulder is substantially the same width as the thickness of the pane, and this construction permits the panes to overlap where they meet at the bar 9, the upper being outside to shed the rain. The lower edge of the lower panes is seated outside a bead 6, formed on the lower rail6, and putty may be applied at-the outer lower edge, as indicated at 12. This is all the outside puttying that need be done to glaze the sash, the remainder being inside, as at 13. It will be seen that by this construction the sash need not be removed in securing a pane to the same, and a neat and attractive window is obtained.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
1. A window-sash the stiles of which are rabbeted interiorly to receive the panes, shoulders formed in the rabbets on which the upper pane rests, and an inwardly-presented shoulder formed in the top rail, and an outwardly-presented shoulder in the bottom rail to retain the panes, substantially as shown and described.
2. A window-sash comprising top and bottom rails and stiles, a verticalbar extending between the top and bottom rails, and a horizontal bar extendingbetween the stiles and through the vertical bar, the stiles having shoulders at the loweredge of the horizontal bar, and upper and lower panes which lap behind the horizontal bar, the upper panes resting on the shoulders, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DANIEL ZATZKE.
