Abstract

Lubricating oil is obtained by polymerizing a C6-C14 normal alpha olefin at 0-50 DEG C. in the presence of (a) aluminium dialkyl chloride, aluminium alkyl dichloride or aluminium alkyl sesquichloride; (b) titanium tetrachloride; and (c) an oxirane <FORM:1088907/C4-C5/1> in which R is hydrogen or a C1-C20 alkyl group or a C1-C20 alkyl methyl ether; the process of the main Specification 961,009 is disclaimed. A solvent as specified in the main Specification may be used and the product may be hydrogenated.
