Abstract
1, 088, 478. Plant comprising free piston gas generators; gas turbine plant. SOCIETE D'ETUDES ET DE PARTICIPATIONS EAU, GAZ, ELECTRICITIE, ENERGIE, S.A. June 9, 1965 [June 10, 1964], No.24485/65. Headings F1G and F1Q. A combustion product plant comprises free piston gas generators 3 one only of which is shown each of which is provided with exhaust means 6, a collector 1, communication means between each of the exhaust means and the collector, a three way valve system 7 within the communication means, the three way valve system comprising a chamber connected to the associated exhaust means the collector and a space under low-pressure, e.g. the atmosphere, a valve member 8 in the chamber which in a first extreme position connects the exhaust means to the collector only, in a second extreme position (shown) connects the exhaust means to the space only, and in intermediate positions between the extreme positions provides throttled communications of the exhaust means with both the collector and the space, the valve member being shaped such that the sections of the respective throttled communications vary as a function of the respective distances between any intermediate position and the extreme positions respectively of the valve member, means 13 operative to move the valve member in either direction between the first and second respective extreme positions and means for restraining the speed of motion of the valve from the second extreme position where it connects the exhaust means to the space only toward the first extreme position where it connects the exhaust means to the collector only. In order to maintain the valve member 8 in the position of Fig. 1 the electrovalve 29 is also in the position shown in Fig. 1. When it is desired to connect the gas generator 3 after its starting with the collector 1 the electrovalve 29 is brought into the position in which it connects the conduits 28 and 30 thus opening communication between the accumulator 20 and the cylinder 26. The valve 19 moves to a position in which it closes the opening 18, The pressure still existing in the compartment a thus causes the motion first of the piston 13 slowly towards the right side against the resistance of liquid contained in the compartment b and which escapes through the conduits 21 and 23 and throttles 22, 24. After piston 13 has contacted the extension 17a of the piston 17 the latter starts to move to the right also, this motion being also slowed down owing to the fact that the piston 17 must drive out the liquid contained in the compartment c through the conduit 23 and throttle 24. The valve 8 may be moved to an intermediate position in which the piston 17 is stopped by its application against the abutment shoulder 32. A number of modifications of the operating system for the valve 8 are described.
