Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1088113/C2/1> wherein R1 and R2 are C1- 6 alkyl groups and R3 is a hydrogen atom or a C1- 6 alkyl group, salts thereof, and their preparation by reaction of a 2-R1-cyclohexanone with a compound of formula <FORM:1088113/C2/2> wherein M is an alkali metal atom or a group -Me-Hal wherein Me is a bivalent metal atom and Hal is a halogen atom, and hydrolysing the metal complex formed. 2 - Isopropyl - and t - butyl - cyclohexanones are prepared by hydrogenation of 2-isopropyl-or 2-t-butyl-phenol to give 2-isopropyl- or 2-t-butyl-cyclohexanol, and oxidizing this with potassium bichromate. The compounds of the invention have coronary vasodilatant, sedative, hypnotic and musclerelaxant activity and may be used in pharmaceutical compositions in combination with a carrier, for example in forms suitable for oral, parenteral or rectal administration.
