Abstract
1,087,652. Qualitative analysis involving chromatography. BODENSEEWERK PERKIN-ELMER & CO. G.m.b.H. Oct. 9, 1964 [Oct. 10, 1963], No. 41341/64. Headings B1L and B1X. Laminµ with absorbent surfaces are used in the spectroscopic anaylsis of a fluid mixture separated by liquid or gas chromatography. The laminae may comprise a foil of A1 2 O 3 and may be used to absorb components in respective zones or laminae after chromatopraphic separation in a preceding column, or the laminae may be used to effect chromatographic separation themselves, the separated components being retained on the laminae in both instances for spectroscopic scanning along lines progressing in the direction of flow. In Fig. 5, detectors 21, 22, 23, 24 and 19 are placed between absorbing sections 13 which sections adsorb components separated in column 11. Individual sections 13 may be used to adsorb separated components replacing each section by another one at the exit of the column after adsorbtion of a particular component. The sections 13 comprise (Fig. 7), two cemented halves comprising aluminium oxide foils 14, capillaries 16 and 17 between aluminium sections, and gas tight shells 20. Each half is made by oxidising the surface that is not to become a foil, dissolving the remaining exposed metal surface to the required thickness, and oxidising the remaining metal surface to obtain the foil.
