Abstract

1,087,465. Gearing for stopping and starting machinery; reverse gearing. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 12, 1964 [Oct. 24, 1963; Nov. 14, 1963], Nos. 41978/63 and 44965/63. Headings F2D and F2L. A device for stopping in predetermined positions the output shaft 14 of a planet reverse gear driving the cam-shaft of a transformer topchanging machine and having stepped planets 26, 27, 28 the former 26 of which meshes an input sun gear 19 and an output ring gear 13 whilst the latter 27, 28 mesh reaction rings 29, 30, comprises pawls 41, 42 pressed by springs 47 into recesses 31 in the ring 13 and selectively pivoted out of the recesses by a rocker 50 to permit forward or reverse rotation of the ring 13. The rocker 50 carries arms 51, 52 which selectively engage recesses 33, 36 in the rings 29, 30 to hold the latter for forward and reverse drive respectively. Movement of the rocker 50 is, as shown, effected by energizing forward or reverse electromagnets 65, 66 but may be hydraulically or pneumatically controlled. Locking pawls 56, 61 lock the levers 51, 52 in or out of engagement with the recesses in their respective rings and are moved into their locking positions by the pawls 41, 42 which engage arms 55, 60 fast with the locking pawls.
