Abstract

1,087,332. Refuse vehicles. COMPOST ENGINEERS Ltd. Dee. 23, 1964 [Dec. 24, 1963], No. 50984/63. Heading B8E. A refuse-vehicle has an imperforate rotatable drum 20 within a fixed casing 24 and a non- rotating feed section 10, having a reception hopper 14 and a frusto-conical member 12, hinged thereto at 11. The member 12 has external helical vanes and the drum 20 has bars and internal helical vanes so that as the drum rotates the bars feed the refuse into the drum but the vanes tend to return it towards the feed section. A nozzle is provided to allow the addition of water from a tank on the vehicle to about 40 to 45% by weight of the refuse to render the refuse readily pulverizable so that if the drum is continuously rotated for about two hours the refuse is rendered to a peat-like material. The feed section is pivoted up and the rotated to effect discharge.
