Abstract

1,086,563. Mineral-mining machines. MAVOR & COULSON Ltd. July 20, 1964 [Aug. 6, 1963], No. 30943/63. Heading E1F. A cutter drum 5 for a mineral-mining machine 1 comprises a hub 7 and one or a pair of interpitched substantially helical flights 8 secured to the hub to each extend there about for a single convolution, to have a smoothly continuous forward face 11, and to have pick boxes 12 located on the rear face 10 of the flight. The or each flight is V-shaped in cross section of which the forward face 11 is formed by a continuous strip of metal that is perpendicular to the axis of the hub, whilst the rear face 10 is formed by welded together segmental sheets. When two flights are provided the starts thereof are 180‹ apart and only the outer half of one flight is provided with pick boxes. At the outer end of the drum picks 17 are mounted at the outer ends of arms 15 extending radially of the hub said arms being interconnected by the tie bars 18, which may carry picks.
