Abstract

1,198,793. Sawing. NORTH LONDON SAW WORKS Ltd. 11 July, 1967 [13 July, 1966], No. 31488/66. Heading B5L. A circular saw blade comprises expansion slots B extending inwardly from the outer periphery of the blade for minimizing the risk of severe strains developing in the blade during use, at least some of the slots at least at their inner ends being plugged with a material having a temperature coefficient of expansion not greater than that of the metal forming the blade. As described, the blade has three slots B extending inwardly between teeth A2 and terminating in circular holes B<SP>1</SP>. The holes are filled with plugs C which, in addition to having a lower temperature coefficient of expansion than the blade material, are also softer than that material and have a melting point higher than the temperature that can be attained by the blade in use. The plugs may be made of non-ferrous material or synthetic fibres and retained in the holes by deformation into countersinking.
