Abstract

A composition comprises bitumen and a lesser weight of a waxy polymer having M.W. 50,000-75,000, R and B m.p. 300-380 DEG F., and melt viscosity (400 DEG F.) 1000-4000 c.p.s. The polymer may be a saturated aliphatic polymer or copolymer, e.g. polyolefin or polyester. Fillers, e.g. fly ash, comminuted asbestos, slate powder, or powdered limestone, may be added.ALSO:Roofing felt is made by reinforcing with hessian, asbestos, rags, or synthetic fibres a composition comprising bitumen and a waxy polymer with or without fillers. The polymer has MW 50,000 - 75,000, R & B m.p. 300 DEG - 380 DEG F, and viscosity (400 DEG F) 1000-4000 cps, and may be a saturated aliphatic polymer or copolymer, e.g. polyolefin or polyester.ALSO:Roofing felt is made by reinforcing a composition comprising bitumen and a waxy polymer, with or without fillers, with a glass fibre fabric or mat, or with metal foil. The polymer, which has MW 50,000 - 75,000, R and B m.p. 300 DEG - 380 DEG F, and viscosity (400 DEG F) 1000 - 4000 cps, may be a saturated aliphatic polymer or copolymer, e.g. polyolefin or polyester.
