1,084,152. Alkylxanthine derivatives. DEUTSCHE GOLD - UND SILBER - SCHEIDEANSTALT. Jan. 11, 1966 [Jan. 16, 1965], No. 1276/66. Heading C2C. The invention comprises the racemic, D- and L-forms of compounds of formula in which T represents a 1,3- or 3,7-dialkyl. xanthinyl-(7 or 1)-group, R represents hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1-6 carbon atoms, and R<SP>1</SP> represents a hydroxyaryl radical, and non-toxic, water-soluble, acid-addition salts thereof, and the preparation thereof by catalytic hydrogenation of a ketone of formula followed, if desired, by conversion via the salts of optically active acids into the optically active forms. Ketones of the formula given above may be prepared by reacting halo-ketones of formula where X is halogen with benzylamino derivatives of formula These benzylamino compounds may be prepared by reacting a γ-halopropylxanthine with benzylamine.
