Abstract

1,083,734. Photographic process for improving contrast. HORIZONS Inc. Nov. 26, 1964 [Feb. 12, 1964], No.48148/64. Heading G2C. A film or transparency carrying a positive image having a contrast and gamma each of about 1 is obtained from a silver negative image by (i) printing through the silver negative with ultraviolet radiation on to a diphenylamine/carbon tetrabromide photo-sensitive film to obtain a blue positive image, (ii) printing through the blue positive with light using a red or green filter on to a trinuclear merocyanine dye/leuco Crystal Violet/carbon tetrabromide photo-sensitive film to obtain a black negative image, and (iii) printing through the black negative with light on to the photo-sensitive film used in (ii) above, using a red or green filter or no filter as necessary, to obtain a black positive image of contrast and gamma each about 1. The original silver negative may be of high, low or medium contrast and the exposures and filters are chosen to obtain a contrast and gamma each of about 1. The diphenylamine/carbon tetrabromide film is as described in Specification 916, 779 and is fixed by heating and the merocyanine dye/leuco Crystal Violet/carbon tetrabromide photo-sensitive film is as described in Specification 1, 000, 196 and is fixed by a solvent rinse.
