Abstract

1,083,505. Valves. MASTER PNEUMATIC Inc. Aug. 25, 1964 [Sept. 12, 1963], No. 34646/64. Heading F2V. A pressure regulator has an air inlet 14 and an air outlet 16 with a valve 54 controlling the passageway therebetween. The carrier 52 of valve 54 is urged by spring 88 to its seat 48 being guided by a plug 98, its upper surface being open to the inlet pressure through ports 86. The plug 98 is laterally slidable in a socket 104 and is sealed by an 0-ring 94 which can roll in a groove 92 and in closed position is urged against the upper side of this groove by the pressure difference to effect sealing. The valve is operated by a control rod 66 which seats on an 0-ring 70 to seal an aperture 62. Pressure in the outlet is communicated by tube 58 to chamber 56 the tube having a rounded end with an orifice placed close to the wall of the passage to form a restriction in the direction of flow and being situated in a narrower section of the outlet. When the pressure is too low, therein, a spring 28 urges diaphragm 40 upwards against the outlet pressure to move rod 66 upwards and open the valve. When the pressure is too high, the pressure in chamber 56 depresses the diaphragm against the spring and opens aperture 62 to release excess air through housing 26 and vent 64 to atmosphere. The fall of rod 66 is limited by spring 84. The tension of spring 28 is adjusted by knob 36 to adjust the outlet pressure permitted before aperture 62 is opened. A pressure gauge 22 is connected.
