Abstract

1,083,348. Making armour; brazing. W. M. SCHWAYDER. April 12, 1965, No. 15399/65. Headings B3A and B3R. [Also in Division E2] Double-sided armour 10 comprises a preformed steel envelope 11 which is filled with irregularly shaped particles of metal carbide or cemented metal carbide and brazing metal, which fills all the spaces between the particles. The packed steel envelope is heated to braze the particles to each other and to the envelope. The envelope is preferably packed with tungsten carbide or a cemented tungsten carbide together with a 10% nickel bronze or similar brazing compound. The armour may be formed as a panel, a cylindrical hinge pin or be contoured to fit behind a safe lock. The envelope is sufficiently thick to allow a drill to form socket on entry to prevent lateral shifting of the drill.
