Abstract

1,221,723. Drilling. J. C. SODING & HALBACH K.G. 31 May, 1968 [9 June, 1967], No. 26295/68. Heading E1F. A cutting roller for use in rock boring equipment has inserts of wear-resistant materiale.g. sintered carbide-provided around the periphery of at least one circumferentially extending cutting rib, with each insert being received within a recess and having working edges which are flush or stand proud with respect to the crown and flank surfaces of the rib. The inserts may be secured in the recesses by soldering, welding, use of adhesives-for example synthetic resins which are comparatively elastic-or working the material of the rib around the insert. The inserts preferably increase in cross-section towards the root thereof and have the centre portion of greater thickness than the lateral portions protecting the flanks of the ribs. Each insert may have an extension on the root side projecting into the roller body. In one embodiment a synthetic resin layer is provided between the rib and the roller to serve as an elastic layer and possibly to secure the rib to the roller.
