Apparatus lubricating bodies translationally moving along a path comprises a support movable generally parallel to the path and which carries a guide member and a lubricating mechanism and means advancing and retracting the member and mechanism to and from said path. In Fig. 1 a support 13 forms part of a parallelogram linkage and moves in an arc while remaining parallel to the path of conveyer rollers 10. The linkage is returned by spring 23 to a first position and operates switch 21 to introduce fluid into cylinder 20 to extend guide rod 18. When a roller 10 engages rod 18 the support 13 is moved and nozzle 31 (Fig. 2) on the end of hollow cylinder 28 engages nipple 12 on roller 10 and is then depressed and the quantity of lubricant in cylinder 26 is forced through valve 30, nozzle 31 and nipple 12. The linkage moves on so that nozzle 31 is disengaged and piston 28 is extended by spring 32 and cylinder 26 refills from tank 25. When the linkage reaches a second position it operates switch 22 and fluid is discharged from cylinder 20 and rod 18 retracts and allows return of the linkage to the first position. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the lubricating and guide rod mechanisms are combined in a unitary structure comprising a number of concentric pistons and cylinders. Shock absorber.-When the linkage returns to the restored position it strikes a shock absorber, Fig. 4, not shown. Link (44) deforms resilient seat (74) and closes vent (75) and then depresses piston (72), air leaving the cylinder via valve (77) when it has reached a certain pressure.
