Abstract

1,083,180. Centrifugal pumps. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING Inc. Sept.28, 1965 [Dec.14, 1964], No.41253/65. Heading F1C. [Also in Division F4] A pumping system for use in a forced circulation steam generator has a number of centrifugal pumps, e. g. three, integral with the lower water drum 52, Fig. 3, supplied from the upper steam and water drum through downcomers 42. The pumps deliver to a number of tubes 24 which line the wall of the furnace of the generator. The drum 52 comprises a large diameter central portion 52a carrying the pumps, and smaller diameter end portions 52b, Fig. 2 (not shown), which communicate with a second water drum 26, Fig. 1A (not shown). Water delivered into a suction chamber 61 of the drum 52 passes through inlet 60 to a pump impeller 54 and is discharged thereby through six angularly-spaced outlet passages 64, check valves 66 and a chamber 62 to the tubes 24. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the check valves 66 are omitted and a single check valve is arranged in the pump inlet 60.
