Abstract

1,082,992. Motor vehicle suspension. COUNTY COMMERCIAL CARS Ltd., G. E. E. TAPP and J. DAVEY. June 8, 1966 [June 29, 1965], No. 27608/65. Heading B7D. In a motor vehicle having the main body portion thereof formed by an engine, gear-box and clutch unit rigidly connected together and carried on wheel support structures pivotable about a fore and aft axis, one wheel support structure 25 is mounted at least in part on the engine oil sump 10. A first fulcrum pin 24 secured to the wheel support structure 25 is journalled in a cross-member 18 extending between side plates 16 attached by studs 15 to bosses 14 on the sump 10, and a second fulcrum pin 32 aligned with the first is journalled in a bearing 33 secured to or formed on the clutch unit 9. The wheel support structure 25 terminates at each side of the vehicle in vertically spaced arms (34, Fig. 2, not shown) carrying bearings for fulcrum pins (35) on steerable axle housings (26) disposed between the arms.
