Toothed wheels.-To take up wear and prevent back-lash, a wormwheel has two adjustable toothed rings e so arranged that the centres of curvature r of the tooth surfaces o, p are displaced to the sides of the centre n of the worm teeth m and gradually approximate to the centre n as the parts are adjusted. The rings e are fixed by bolts g and nuts to a flange b' on the body of the wheel, and are adjusted by removing washers h. In a modification, one ring e only is used, the nuts i bearing against the flange b', or the ring may be integral with the body of the wheel, which is moved along its shaft for adjustment.
