Abstract

The wire engaging surface of a forming board consists of a hard dense ceramic material having a Knoop hardness greater than 1600. The surface is formed by three rows of ceramic tiles of dense self-bonded silicon carbide or scintered alumina secured either directly to the board or by an epoxy resin based adhesive to stainless steel members dovetailed to the board. As described the forming board comprises three pedestals each extending the width of the machine and having the tiles thereon, the pedestals being separated by table rolls. Alternatively only the first pedestal may have the tiles thereon.
