Abstract

1,082,798. Spinning rings. MERRIMAN Inc. April 30, 1965 {May 1, 1964], No. 18233/ 65. Heading DID. In a horizontal spinning ring a porous ring is supplied with oil by means including substantially vertical holes in a vertical web supported on a base. In Fig. 1 a wick 54 is threaded alternately through the holes 48 and through sectors of annular grooves 50, 52 in the upper surface of the ring and in the base respectively. Grooves 50, 52 have annular covers 58, 59. The wick is supplied with oil from oil well 4 via wick 10 and annular wick 14. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the holes contain roughened pins, whilst in Fig. 5 (not shown) a pin engages a wick in a groove. The oil is supplied to the pins by wicking or by force feed, e.g. by a vertically extending reservoir of oil. In Fig. 7 (not shown) the holes 48 are filled with lubricant by a vertically extending reservoir connected to the bottoms of the holes. The web, base and any holder for the base may be impregnated with a sealer or coated with oil impervious material.
