Abstract
Herbicidal compositions, especially suitable for the selective control of weeds in cereal crops, comprise two or more synthetic auxins of the herbicidal phenoxy alkyl carboxylic acid type or active derivatives thereof, in admixture with 4 - amino - 3,5,6 - trichloropicolinic acid (ATP) or an active derivative thereof in a quantity less than 5% by weight of the total weight of auxin and ATP. The active derivatives of the acids are derivatives having herbicidal action and may be salts (including acid addition salts in the case of ATP), esters and amides. Specified synthetic auxins are 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid, 2 - methyl - 4 - chlorophenoxyacetic acid, 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyoxypropionic acid, 2,4-dichlorophenoxypropionic acid, 2,4-dichlorophenoxybutric acid, 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxypropionic acid. In an example of the preparation of a composition for spraying, 2-methl-4-chlorophenoxypropionic acid, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid are dissolved in aqueous dimethylamine, and an aqueous solution of the potassium salt of A.T.P. is then added, followed by a sequestering agent (e.g. sodium ethylene diaminetetraacetate) and further water. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 957,831.
