Abstract
1,082,582. Multi-dose hypodermic injector. R. P. SCHERER CORPORATION. May 25, 1965 [Aug. 17, 1964], No. 22232/65. Heading A5R. A multi-dose hypodermic injector, having a cylinder with a piston operable in one direction to draw medicament into the cylinder from a medicament container, and in the other to expel it from a discharge orifice, has a three-way valve between the cylinder and the orifice, permitting communication of the cylinder with either the container or the orifice, and means permitting entry of air to the container when the latter communicates with the cylinder, but sealing the container from the air when the orifice communicates with the cylinder. Such means is preferably incorporated in the three-way valve, by a duct therein which is brought into connection with the atmosphere. In Fig. 1, the valve plug 20, which is rotatable, has a T-shaped duct, with arms 23, 24 and 25, which can connect with ports 26, 28, and 30 which themselves communicate with respectively the cylinder 27, the orifice 18, and, via a medicament tube 50, the container 32. The plug also incorporates an L-shaped duct, with arms 62 and 63, which, according to the position of the plug, serves either to seal off the container from the atmosphere, as shown in Fig. 1, or when the valve rotates to connect the container with the cylinder, as shown in Fig. 4, to allow entry of air to the container from a port in the face 66 of the cylinder, through a gap between this face and the nose piece 12. Air is admitted to the container by an air duct 52, which is in conjunction with the medicament tube 50, the double tube being sharpened to pierce the closure of the container. In Fig. 1, the parts 40 and 41 comprise a telescopic arm whereby a holding member 44, with a pad 46, serves to hold the container in place. The valve plug is rotated between its two positions by a handle, 27, moving between two stops 29 and 31.
