Abstract

1,082,172. Electric motors. PLESSEY-U.K. Ltd. Oct. 28, 1964 [Sept. 20, 1963], No. 37142/63. Heading H2A. A step-by-step motor comprises a laminated stator 1 formed with eight poles 2 having toothed pole-faces. Its rotor comprises a magnet 4a and two axially-spaced mild-steel polepieces 4b, 4c each having teeth of the same pitch as those on the stator poles but mutually displaced by half-tooth pitch. The teeth on the stator poles are progressively displaced by quarter-tooth pitch so that opposed poles have aligned teeth. The stator poles carry on alternate poles, windings 18, 19 which are bifilar and connected to reversing switches 21, 22, which by energizing one wire of the winding or the other, in reverse direction, enables the poles to be reversed in sequence by cyclic operation of the switches. This produces stepping of the rotor.
