Abstract

1,082,085. Delivering cigarettes in orderly arrangement. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Feb. 21, 1964 [Feb. 25, 1963], No. 7526/63: Heading A2C. [Also in Division B8] A device for use in re-orientating articles is used in duplicate to combine two rows of cigarettes 2, 3 carried on an endless conveyer- 4 with all their tips 5 directed inwardly, row 2 being swept through- 90 degrees anticlockwise by the rotary device 8 and deposited on a conveyer 6 while row 3 is swept through 90 degrees clockwise by the similar rotary device 9 and deposited on the conveyer 6 the two rows 2, 3 thus forming a: single row 7 with all their tips pointing the same way. The cigarettes are swept along arcuate tracks 17 by pins 13 which are maintained in an elevated position by a plough member 14 until they reach the ends 15 of two arms 16 thereof which lie just upstreamof the downstream end of conveyer 4: Fig: 3 shows a device in which a single rotary member 20 receives cigarettes from a conveyer 19, turns them through about 200 degrees and combines them with a row of cigarettes on a conveyer 18. The pins 13 may. be replaced by brushes (Fig. 4, not shown).
