Abstract
Ethylene (70 to 99.9%) is copolymerized with norborna-2,5-diene or an alkyl derivative thereof (30 to 0.1%) using a free radical catalyst, a temperature of 10 DEG to 250 DEG C. and a pressure of more than 200 atmospheres above atmospheric pressure. A third monomer may also be present in proportions of 1 to 30% by weight. In examples, the polymerization is effected in t-butanol or isooctane using as catalyst azobis-isobutyronitrile or benzoyl peroxide; ethyl acrylate is used as a third monomer. The products may be compounded with fillers, waxes, other polymers and rubber.
