Abstract

1,081,174. Resilient bushings. MONARCH RUBBER CO. July 5, 1965, No. 28355/65. Heading F2S. A resilient bushing is formed by forcing a resilient sleeve 22 into an outer rigid sleeve member 21, having an end flange 30 which engages a corresponding flange 36 on the sleeve 22, and then forcing an inner rigid sleeve member 20, of greater length than the member 21, into the bore 34, 38, 39 of the sleeve so that the resultant radial compression of the sleeve 21 squeezes its end, opposite the flange 36, outwardly beyond the member 21, the projecting portion of the sleeve being removed, e.g. by grinding, to form an inwardly-angled surface (72), Fig. 5, (not shown), which extends from the outer member toward the inner member. End members 23, 24 having flanges 42, 45 respectively are secured with a press-fit, into the ends of the inner member 20, the sleeve flange 36 being clamped between the flanges 31, 42. Apparatus is described, including die assemblies and expanders, Figs. 8, 9, 11, (not shown), for assembling the bushing, which is finally held axially between rotating grinding dies (62), (63) and against an angled grinding, or cutting, surface (71), Fig. 10, (not shown.)
