Abstract

1,080,634. Sliding and swinging doors. REPUBLIC INDUSTRIES Inc. Feb. 21, 1966 [March 1, 1965], No. 7422/66. Heading E2M. An automatic sliding and swinging door construction, having adjustment means 100, to accommodate sag thus obviating the need for a roller on the lower edge of the door, comprises a panel 10 supported by pivots 30 and 32, the pivot 30 being attached to the lower end of a door jamb 22 by an offset bracket 28, the pivot 32 and the upper end of the door jamb being attached to a trolley 20 which slides on rollers 26 in a track 44, a hydraulic piston and cylinder for driving the trolley and the jamb as a unit along the track, resettable breakaway latching means for holding the door in alignment with the trolley and sensing means for determining when the door and trolley are in line. The means 100 comprises a screw 108. engaging a stem 90 whereby adjustment of the screw causes, the pivots 30 and 32 to be tilted relative to each other. A person stepping on a mat in front of the door can only activate the driving means if the door is aligned with the trolley, activation of the sliding motion automatically relatching the door. During the sliding motion guide rollers, mounted on the lower end of the door jamb prevent transverse movement thereof. The hydraulic drive system provides clamping of both the opening and closing movement of the door, the door closing force being provided by tension springs. The pivoting movement is controlled by a hydraulic door check.
